A Pair of Crutches
How Actions of Love Changed an Orphan's Life

Sarah, Chinese Orphan age 17 wrote:

Dear Angie,

The experience I got from this camp makes me feel the love of family.  You and Tracy treat me so carefully and thoughtfully, especially you.  Tracy told me you got up very early every day and pray for us.  You believe God will bless us.  At first, I didn’t believe that.

In the past, I didn’t smile very much, but since I have to this camp, I started to communicate with you, and now I hope I can smile every day in the future.

I want to thank Doctor Sam and the other kind people who gave me a pair of crutches which bring me a lot of convenience to my life.  Also, I like the crafts at camp, and I liked the hairstyle you did for me.  I love you so much, my buddy.  And Tracy is so nice.  She wanted to help me wash my clothes when she saw I was not feeling well.  Now I believe God exists.

If I had the chance to come to camp again, I wish I could be the group of people I love.  I can feel love in our group.  I am also very appreciative for what you did for us, you gave all your love to us.  I will remember all the brothers and sisters in our camp forever.”

Yours, Sarah

The Dance of My Life
A Vision for an Orphan's Future

Pastor Brian Jasper wrote

It was the dance of my life!  I don’t usually dance in public.  It has more to do with my position as a pastor and the context in which I serve than any other concerns.  The night in Nanchang, China this past summer however was a rare and beautiful exception.

I had formed deep and powerful bonds with the 8 year old Chinese orphan buddy I had named Nicole. She named me YehYeh -  Grandpa.  I learned that week that words aren’t always needed, playing catch is a universal language.

One night after a huge game of musical chairs, music continued to play and some people danced.  It just seemed right that Nicole and I join in.  As the music played we held each other’s hands and spun around in a circle, at times I twirled her with one hand over her head, and at times I swung her feet off the ground and spun her round and round.  As I wrote to her in a letter at the end of the week, while we danced, my heart danced.

And while we danced God gave me a clear powerful sense that what I had prayed for earlier in the week; that God would let me know that Nicole would come to know Him… happened.  I had this clear image in my mind of Nicole dancing with the King and had this clear sense that Jesus said, “You will see her dance with me one day.”  The profound sense of joy this brought was accompanied by an equally clear sense that I would have to fight for her in prayer but God would make Himself known to her.  I do pray for her, almost every day.  I don’t know if I will see this bright little girl who captured my heart again, this side of heaven, but I do know I will see her again.

The Heart of Sponsorship

Every year we read hundreds of letters from kids describing their time at camp. These letters really capture why it is so important to get the children to camp. This is part of a letter from an orphan named Tom-

"I lost my parents when I was young. I never feel the warmth of a family and stay at the orphanage. Though the time we stay together is very short, I have felt the love and warmth. I felt very happy."

I REALLY wish that every sponsor could come to China and meet the child whose life they have changed. Its unforgettable how their faces light up when they swim for the first time in their lives. Or go down a waterslide, or sing or dance to music they have never heard before.

But since that isn't possible for all the sponsors, we have developed the next best thing.

The Journey to Camp.

This includes:
- A phone call from the orphan while he/she is at camp.
- Photos from camp
- The child's background information
- The child's goodbye letter to volunteer

Thanks so much for considering an orphan sponsorship!

From the Kids

The children that come to camp are well acquainted with hardships, yet they are remarkably resilient.  Their tragic stories of life as an orphan deeply move us.  But we remember their tenderness, grateful hearts, and joy even more.

“I enjoy this camp because it has brought so much happiness to me...There are so many joyful things. I can not control myself smiling when I am thinking about these things!” -Dream

“I have gotten a lot of love and care from you. I have never felt so good before; no one in my life has been concerned with me like you. It’s you and the friends at camp that bring me hope and give me sunshine.” -Joe

“This week is my most unforgettable time of my life, ever! And happiest! Every time you gave me kisses I always remembered them because kisses from you opened my heart. Maybe only I can see those kisses.” -Kelly

“This week I felt really good. I got not only happiness, but also friendship, unity, and security….The existence of you is just like a beautiful picture in my life.” -Tom
