Changing of the guard

Team Fallbrook and several other groups of folks are now on their way to Beijing, as the teams from weeks 1 and 2 make their way home. Tonight, those of us departing from Southern California will spend 13 hours on a 747 over the Pacific. We will hopefully get some sleep, and hopefully reflect on what will be expected of us when we get to work on Monday.
Over the next two weeks, we will have even more photos and updates from China, so check back regularly. Here is a final post from our volunteer correspondent, Michelle Rusch:
“Today is the second to last day of camp. Everyone is settling down for the night and tomorrow we will see the little campers depart. That is the hardest part of the whole week. Letters will be shared and gifts given.
One of the highlights of the week has been to see how the volunteers have overcome the language barrier through creative techniques. Uno seems to be a game that is universal and hand games are a big hit, too! Another praise to report this week is that we have continued to have good health and no major accidents.
I had a special experience this week because one of my orphan buddies was a lot like me, so I learned a lot just by observing her. She is a very quiet and serious little girl—almost too serious at times. Fortunate for us, we were able to open her up by the end of the week. She was playing games, smiling, laughing, and just having plain old fun. I have a lot to learn from her. It was nice to be on the other side of it. It was a growing experience and it stretched me in good ways.
Michelle”
And here are a couple of photos from Ms. Rusch.
